Unexpected Happy Anniversary – De Havilland Canada Chipmunk

This one really caught me by surprise.  70 years of the Chipmunk?   I thought someone was kidding.  But no. Designed by Wsiewołod Jakimiuk, CF-DIO-X, the Chipmunk prototype, flew for the first time at Downsview, Toronto on 22 May 1946 with Pat Fillingham, test pilot from the parent de Havilland company, at the controls.  (Thank you Wikipedia).

I won’t detain you any longer – have a look at this rather nice gathering at Old Warden back in May.
